Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot News & Updates

Hello Niya —

In this year’s final issue of Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot News & Updates, we’re sharing guidance on how to finalize screenings in ASQ Online®, a brief training module that will help you harness ASQ Online’s powerful reporting capabilities, tips for turning screening data into meaningful instruction, and much more.

Important reminder: All Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot data— including questionnaires administered via paper, pending Family Access screenings, and any child profiles noting the reason for not participating — must be entered into ASQ Online by Friday, September 26.

Understanding ASQ Data

One of ASQ’s greatest strengths is the rich data it provides. With built-in reports in ASQ Online, teachers can easily interpret screening results to help tailor instruction and create supportive learning environments for all students.

Use the ASQ-3 Screenings Below Cutoff by Area and ASQ:SE-2 Screenings Above Cutoff reports to:

As the deadline for the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot window approaches, make sure all screenings are finalized and accepted in ASQ Online. This tip sheet will walk you through:

Review the Results

Now that screenings are complete—what’s next? With all screenings submitted, it’s time to review your students’ results and identify next steps. Not sure where to begin in ASQ Online? Start with the ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 Screening Scores Reports. These reports show each child’s individual scores alongside the corresponding cutoff scores, giving you a clear picture of their developmental progress.

Using ASQ Data Effectively

Once you have your scores in hand, what’s next? This 30-minute training module will show you how to interpret your ASQ data with confidence. Learn how to:

Supporting Student Development

Looking for simple, effective ways to support student development? Each issue includes a free, ready-to-use activity you can try in your classroom or share with families and caregivers to reinforce classroom learning. Every activity is aligned with Kansas Early Learning Standards.

This is a good time to double-check your ASQ data to confirm you have a completed ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 screening for each enrolled kindergarten student. If you have some families who have not yet completed the ASQ, you do still have until Sept. 22 to complete screenings. If you have children who did not participate because screening was inappropriate, or because the child was older than 77 months and 30 days, or because the family opted out, please ensure you’ve created a Child Profile and filled in the appropriate “Reason for Not Participating.”
Remember that the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Fact Sheet includes helpful action items and resources so that you can use this data in a meaningful way. KSDE and the Kansas Parent Information Resource Center will offer an “Introduction to ASQ” live virtual training on Sept. 18 from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m.

If you need assistance, please reach out to Amanda Petersen ([email protected]) and Stacy Clarke ([email protected]). We’re more than happy to help ensure your data is finalized or to think through how you might improve your Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot for future years.
