**KINDERGARTEN READINESS**
*In October 2015, the Kansas State Board of Education announced a new vision for education in Kansas, giving direction for a student-focused system and resources for individual success. The Board identified Kindergarten Readiness as one of five Outcome Areas to measure progress and now requires every district in Kansas to utilize this developmentally appropriate snapshot tool for kindergarten students beginning with the 2018-2019 school year. The goal of Kindergarten Readiness is to ensure that each student enters Kindergarten at age 5 socially, emotionally, and academically prepared for success. To do this, Kansas must have common kindergarten entry data across all elementary schools.*

**THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERVENTION**
*Early intervention can change a child's developmental path and improve outcomes for children, families, and school communities. In the Kansas MTSS and Alignment process, universal screening data is reviewed in order to support discussions related to the adequacy of your preschool curriculum, the match between your preschool and kindergarten scope and sequence, as well as information necessary to meet the individual learning and development needs of your students.*

*The Ages & Stages Questionnaires Third Edition (ASQ-3) and the Ages & Stages Questionnaires Social Emotional Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2) offers a variety of resources and classroom activities intended to intentionally target the learning needs of your students. Choose among these activities based on your knowledge of the child’s needs and preferences:*

"ASQ-3 Learning Activities" gives ideas to expand opportunities for children to practice skills. "ASQ:SE-2 Learning Activities and More" contains newsletters, activities, and tips by age. Handouts are organized by topic and age and offer key information to support children's social-emotional development and strategies for common challenges. "ASQ-3 Intervention Activities" and "ASQ:SE-2 Development Guides and Intervention Activities" are additional resources found in the appendix of the respective User's Guide.

**INTERPRETING ASQ RESULTS**
**AND PLANNING FOR NEXT STEPS**
*The Information Summary Sheet is the scoring form. It provides a complete summary of the questionnaire information and results. Each age interval has its own unique Information Summary.*

*The Information Summary Sheet provides the following details for a child:*

**ASQ-3 INFORMATION SUMMARY SHEET:**
*Total scores and cutoffs for the 5 areas screened*
*Graph showing where the child's scores falls (below cutoff, monitoring zone, above cutoff)*

### ENGAGING PARENTS
*Family engagement is a key component of follow-up action taken within your Kansas MTSS and Alignment framework. We know about the importance of relationships in terms of children’s development and success in school. Parents will be more comfortable and engaged in screening when they understand what it’s for and how it works.*

*Share the purpose of screening.*
*Give parents guidance and help them feel prepared to complete the screening successfully.*
*Explain the scoring system, and show parents where to mark their response.*
*Visit [https://agesandstages.com/ks/](/content/ks/index.html) for more FAQs, quick reference guides and 'how-to' videos describing how to implement the ASQ.*
*Upon completion, take a few moments to review when you will share the results with them.*
