### [We use the ASQ-3 as part of our developmental screening program and are piloting a Project LAUNCH initiative with the ASQ:SE-2 to improve our focus on social-emotional needs of infants and toddlers. Have you conducted research on or do you recommended a 2-step process where only children with a delay in the Personal-Social area of the ASQ-3 receive an ASQ:SE-2 rather than screening with both questionnaires for every child?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/310-we-use-the-asq3-as-part-of-our-developmental-screening-program-and-are-piloting-a-project-launch-initiative-with-the-asqse2-to-improve-our-focus-on-socialemotional-needs-of-infants-and-toddlers-have-you-conducted-research-on-or-do-you-recommended-a-2step-process-where-only-children-with-a-delay-in-the-personalsocial-area-of-the-asq3-receive-an-asqse2-rather-than-screening-with-both-questionnaires-for-every-child/)

We have not collected data on this two-step process, but we do recommend it for programs that aren’t able to screen every child with both the ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2. This practices does make sense in terms of what we know about autism and what our research has found in terms of using ASQ-3 with children later identified …

### [Can the ASQ questionnaires be administered through ASQ Online when not connected to wifi or mobile data? For example, if a home visitor was taking a tablet to a rural area without internet access, is there an app that allows for offline administration?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/412-can-the-asq-questionnaires-be-administered-through-asq-online-when-not-connected-to-wifi-or-mobile-data-for-example-if-a-home-visitor-was-taking-a-tablet-to-a-rural-area-without-internet-access-is-there-an-app-that-allows-for-offline-administration/)

To use ASQ Online, the computer or mobile device must be connected to the internet. Offline administration is not possible at this time. In the situation you describe, the home visitor would need to bring a paper copy of the ASQ to complete and then enter the data into ASQ Online when they returned to the office.

### [The Social Communication and Interaction behavioral areas measured by ASQ:SE-2 seem very similar. Can you please clarify the differences between these two areas?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/408-the-social-communication-and-interaction-behavioral-areas-measured-by-asqse2-seem-very-similar-can-you-please-clarify-the-differences-between-these-two-areas/)

These two behavioral areas are very similar; both areas focus on communication but the difference is in the intent of the communication. The Social Communication items focus on a child’s ability to communicate to express interests, wants, or needs while the Interaction items focus on a child's ability to socialize.

### [What type of data analysis is possible with ASQ Online? My program uses ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 at intake for our infant development and counseling center, and it is difficult to analyze aggregated data of children using the paper version.](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/322-what-type-of-data-analysis-is-possible-with-asq-online-my-program-uses-asq3-and-asqse2-at-intake-for-our-infant-development-and-counseling-center-and-it-is-difficult-to-analyze-aggregated-data-of-children-using-the-paper-version/)

ASQ Online allows for robust data analysis with preset reports and the ability to export raw data as CSV files. The reports section in ASQ Online enables users to generate a wide selection of customizable (e.g., interval, date range) reports for individual children, individual programs, and/or groups of children across various intervals.

### [How many questionnaires are included in ASQ:SE-2?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/349-how-many-questionnaires-are-included-in-asqse2/)

There are a total of 9 age intervals for ASQ:SE-2: 2, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48, and 60 months.

### [We use ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 during our Child Find activities. We have the parents make appointments and then send them the questionnaires to complete ahead of time. We're seeing that more and more of our parents are unable to answer the questions for a variety of reasons so we were considering asking staff complete the questionnaires and then conferencing with the parent to compare the scores and finalize. The staff would not be familiar with the child, though. Does that present any concerns? Do you have other suggestions?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/309-we-use-asq3-and-asqse2-during-our-child-find-activities-we-have-the-parents-make-appointments-and-then-send-them-the-questionnaires-to-complete-ahead-of-time-were-seeing-that-more-and-more-of-our-parents-are-unable-to-answer-the-questions-for-a-variety-of-reasons-so-we-were-considering-asking-staff-complete-the-questionnaires-and-then-conferencing-with-the-parent-to-compare-the-scores-and-finalize-the-staff-would-not-be-familiar-with-the-child-though-does-that-present-any-concerns-do-you-have-other-suggestions/)

The developers recommend that professionals enlist parents to complete the questionnaires whenever possible. ASQ was developed and validated as a parent-completed tool, and many studies have found parents to be reliable evaluators of children’s behavior. As you’ve experienced, there are some scenarios—such as a cognitive limitation—where this may not be possible.

### [The manual for the 1st edition of ASQ:SE had information about each item that we used to look further at areas of concern. Does the ASQ:SE-2 User's Guide include this information?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/325-the-manual-for-the-1st-edition-of-asqse-had-information-about-each-item-that-we-used-to-look-further-at-areas-of-concern-does-the-asqse2-users-guide-include-this-information/)

Yes, information about each ASQ:SE-2 item can be found on pages 33–35 (Table 3.3) in the ASQ:SE-2 User’s Guide. In addition to listing the behavioral area, associated content, and ASQ:SE-2 items by age interval, this chart also includes an indication if an item is new to the 2nd edition.

### [We are conducting screenings during a Healthy Kids Fair and only have approximately 15 minutes per child. One professional will help with ASQ-3 and another will help with ASQ:SE-2. Do you have any recommendations on how to do the tools in a modified version so that we can complete in our short time frame and do not have to print off so many pages? Which questions are critical?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/411-we-are-conducting-screenings-during-a-healthy-kids-fair-and-only-have-approximately-15-minutes-per-child-one-professional-will-help-with-asq3-and-another-will-help-with-asqse2-do-you-have-any-recommendations-on-how-to-do-the-tools-in-a-modified-version-so-that-we-can-complete-in-our-short-time-frame-and-do-not-have-to-print-off-so-many-pages-which-questions-are-critical/)

There is no modified version of ASQ-3 or ASQ:SE-2, and it is unlikely to have parents complete both tools in less than 15 minutes. However, you could focus on ASQ-3 and only complete ASQ:SE-2 if a parent had concerns or the Personal-Social domain on ASQ-3 was low. To cut down on the amount of paper, you could consider sharing paper copies of specific age interval tools or a selection of questions.

### [We're implementing a new ASQ screening program at our child care center. Do you have materials to distribute at a parent information night?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/318-were-implementing-a-new-asq-screening-program-at-our-child-care-center-do-you-have-materials-to-distribute-at-a-parent-information-night/)

A parent information meeting is a great way to introduce the concept of screening. You may find the What is ASQ-3? and What is ASQ:SE-2? parent handouts helpful as well as the sample parent welcome letters. See sample letters in the support center for examples.

### [We use the ASQ with our families at our family resource centers. Do you have a short, easy-to-understand, introduction paragraph that we can share with parents that explains the ASQ process and benefits?](https://support.agesandstages.com/kb/article/235-we-use-the-asq-with-our-families-at-our-family-resource-centers-do-you-have-a-short-easytounderstand-introduction-paragraph-that-we-can-share-with-parents-that-explains-the-asq-process-and-benefits/)

The developers recommend sharing the What Is ASQ-3? and What Is ASQ:SE-2? handout with families when introducing the screening program. The handouts are available in multiple languages. The introductory letter to parents may also have helpful information.
